Referee Guidelines for the AUCSC Season!

Ladies and Gentlemen, here are a few guidelines, and information that you need to know when refereeing games for AUCSC/SAYSA this fall.

1. Please be on time.
This means 15-20 minutes BEFORE game time. Do your best to start your games on time. Be sure to introduce yourself to the coaches, get their names also. (Write them down.) For Div1 and Div 2 games and inter-league Div 3 games you must check player cards. (You don't have to check player cards for U10 and younger or U12 & U14 games when both are AUC teams)

2. Be dressed and equipped for the job
Attire: Yellow ref's shirt or approved alternate, black shorts, black socks, dark shoes if you wear a cap, it should be black also. Shirts tucked in, socks up – look professional. Equipment: Centers have flags, whistle, watch, pencil red/yellow cards, coin. (Unprofessional to have to borrow these from other refs or spectators) product video

3. Be Blow your whistle loud and give clear signals
SMILE! Linesmen hold those flags high! SMILE! Centers make eye contact with the ARs. Call fouls! SMILE. Keep up with play. SMILE!

4. Know your limitations
Don't over extend yourself by accepting more assignments than you can physically handle.

5. Don't get into arguments with coaches, players, or spectators during games
Don't get into arguments with coaches, players, or spectators during games. Make your calls, be clear on it and move on. Ignore the minor comments but don't hesitate to caution a coach or player for dissent if they persist in yelling at you or your AR's. If a coach or spectator refuses to cooperate after one warning them, tell them "You are in dissent - please leave the field area with in 2 minutes or I will abandon the match". Stop the game - do not restart it until they leave. If they don't leave in 2 minutes, do not finish the game - call your ARs in, walk away together and report it to me. I will support you in these matters. You do not have to tolerate abuse. notebook laptop battery

6. U10 and younger games:
The Field Marshal will pay you. These are people that volunteer to help you so be nice to them! You will sign for your money when you get paid. . Look for the field marshal at the buildings next to the concession stand at Slaughter Creek or West Creek. NOTE- If you have any late games that start after 3:30, you will need to see the field marshal before the late game to get paid, as they usually leave by 5PM

Give game cards to the winning coach or to home coach if it's a tie. Extras are available from the Field Marshal stations at West Creek and Slaughter, but coaches should have them. U7's/U8's don't use game cards.

Explain your calls as necessary- especially to young players - say "blue throw in," or "white corner kick" so the little ones know what they are supposed to do. It is the coach's job to teach them the rules, but a little help from you does not hurt.

7. U11 and older age games:
The home team's coach or manager will pay you usually at the end of the game or at half time. You will sign a pay envelope showing you received the money.

Coaches and managers will have game cards. At the end of the game return to the winning coach or home coach for a tie.

8. Referee Pay
AUCSC will do its best to continue to pay referees on the field, the day of the game, in cash. There are circumstances when this is not possible and oversights do happen. If for some reason you do not get paid, report it as soon as possible to your assignor and they will contact me. Do not cause a scene with the coaches or field marshal. Unless the game is cancelled in advance and you are notified, or unless the game is officially rained out, and provided you show up at the correct time and on the correct field, then ARRANGEMENTS WILL BE MADE TO GET YOU PAID FOR THE WORK YOU DO.

9. Rain-outs
The rain out number is listed below- check it if you have any doubts before leaving for the game. Do not assume games are rained out until you check – it may not rain as hard at the field as at your house.

10. If there is an emergency
If a serious injury or other medical emergency occurs during one of your games:
a. FIRST find someone with a cell phone and call 911.
b. SECOND send someone to the Field Marshal or the concession stand for help.

11. If you are threatened
If you are the subject of verbal or physical abuse:
a. FIRST go to the Field Marshal or other adults if you feel threatened.
b. SECOND if you have been assaulted call 911
c. THIRD file a game report

12. Please file game reports
File game reports with me for any instance where there is a serious injury to a player, a RED CARD, coach ejection, or referee abuse- physical or verbal. Please try to have coaches' names, game time and field number on this report, state the facts, as you know them.
